When taking ideas such as affordable healthcare or solar lamps to markets, especially those that make an impact on low-income people, entrepreneurs face several barriers.
Often, there is information asymmetry about the reliability, availability, pricing and other aspects of required expertise or resources due to lack of precedent business models or entrepreneurs only have sporadic support and lack specific pragmatic expert inputs. Furthermore, there is high uncertainty about the quality of support from external consultants and service providers and limited budgets to engage with experienced mentors on preferred terms. In most cases, these challenges result in the failure of many high-potential enterprises.
Created in partnership with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), Ennovent’s newly launched Startup Services aims to develop and refine the business models of product and services innovations for low-income markets in India. After successfully kicking-off in Delhi and Jaipur, Ennovent will now be bringing its Startup Services to Kolkata. The first Kick-off Session will be held on 10th May with the goal being to secure cross-sectional feedback from mentors, entrepreneurs and investors on entrepreneur challenges and the benefits of the mentoring process in reaching enterprise milestones.
To create an impact in these markets it has been identified that early-stage enterprises need more than money and entrepreneurs in fact require structured yet flexible support. By focusing on smaller cities such as Kolkata, Jaipur and Chandigarh where such services are few and far between, Ennovent will accelerate several high-potential enterprises by providing services to refine their business models thereby creating a sustainable impact.
Compared to a traditional brick and mortar incubator, Ennovent’s Startup Services will offer a mix of virtual and on the ground support. By creating local hubs of enterprises in different cities such as Kolkata, providing mentoring support through small workshops, hosting Thought Leader sessions with experienced industry practitioner and connecting enterprises to a global peer community through the Ennovent Network, entrepreneurs will now be able to access the customized support they need to meet their specific requirements.
We are now inviting entrepreneurs and mentors alike to be a part of the exclusive round-table Kick-off Session to be held in Kolkata on Friday, 10th May.
Date: Friday 10th May 2013 from 1 – 4pm
Venue: Institute for Quality Skill Training 1 G, Everest House (1st Floor) 46 C, J.L. Nehru Road, Kolkata – 700 071, (At Chowringhee-Theatre Road crossing, opposite Birla Planetarium)
