Each year, some 140,000 sq km of rainforests are destroyed, but the destruction must not continue. Ennovent supported by WWF Switzerland launched a Tropical Forest Challenge on the 1st June 2012 to search for the most innovative for-profit solutions that conserve the tropical forest biodiversity.
In this one-of-a-kind Challenge, 52 entrepreneurs from around the world have submitted their business solutions online in three categories – idea, start up and company – and are competing to win rewards, such as global visibility, networking and capacity building opportunities.
Because of their strong connect to local communities, these entrepreneurs are creating a positive impact on tropical forest preservation while developing their social enterprise. For some of the entrepreneurs, even with a proven business model, it is getting difficult to ensure his business can grow and evolve over the long term.
Which is why, the Challenge is playing an important part in connecting the entrepreneurs with business experts to ensure that their model continues to create and amplify impact. Identifying and supporting these entrepreneurs is, more than ever, a critical mechanism through which we can address pressing social, economic and environmental issues – such as tropical forest degradation – over the long-term.
It just takes one great idea to create lasting change, for tropical forests and beyond. We’re looking for those ideas and enterprises now. So hurry and apply before 30th September 2012!
